Title: OpenSTEP High Res in VMWare?
Post by: jeffberg on August 14, 2007, 11:56:42 AM
hey guys, I am running OpenStep fully in VMWare Fusion 1 (posting this from openstep now).
I am using the Atomic Object VMWare Video driver.  It runs in 32 bit color at 1024x768.  But If I raise the resolution higher than that, it boots up to a blue screen... and not the OpenSTEP blue, like a buggy video blue.  Is there a way to get this driver to run at higher res?

is there a way to get VMWare Fusio 1 to support the Vesa driver?

Thanks in Advance,
Jeff

I have the same issue with my VMWARE install on win2k, and I have to make sure I am in a 32bit color resolution before "booting" OS in VMWare.  Here is the relevant info from the Atomic site.

Quote2003-10-02 Note: If your display appears to have very incorrect colors, then the problem is most likely that OpenStep cannot properly handle the number of colors you're running with. Try changing the number of bits-per-pixel you're using. Any one of 15, 16, 24, or 32 may work, but in our experience you have to experiment to find the right setting. The specific native OS version, display driver or vmware version can affect this.

That's weird.  I have NS 3.3 running at 1280x1024 in VMWare 6 (Vista host) using the same driver.  Could it be an API difference between Fusion and WS/Server?
