For kicks, I want to hook my Sony SMO-S501 650 Mb OD drive to my White box but will NS even support it or did it only really support it's own MO drive?
I would think that it would support it, but you may have to figure out the settings for a disktab entry so builddisk knows how to deal with the drive layout.
ok, thanks. :)

It does work. I've tried it on a Turbo Color Station and it was recognized at startup and loaded in the dock when media was inserted. However, it cannot read NeXT formatted ODs.

Were you able to initialize a 650M platter and actually write to it? Was that under NS or OS on the TurboColor? Bummer it did not read the NeXT disks though, but not surprising.

I did not initialize the disk because it had already been formatted as a Mac file system (1.3Gbyte) which NeXT recognized and mounted automatically :-) this worked with both Sony and Maxoptic drives.
I'll go back and try it with a blank disk next time.
