Title: Ns 3.3 on Compaq Armada 500 - Questions...

Hello.

After installing NS 3.3 and OS 4.2 on my black hardware I thought of giving my old Compaq Armada a "new" OS: NS 3.3. After reading several topics in here that machine should be compatible... At least it boots off the floppy but does not find the internal (!) CD ROM drive - and I do not own any adaptor to connect external SCSI CD ROM drives. I´m in posession of the driver floppy and the original CD ROM but not any additional driver floppy and this is where I´m stuck right now because I do not know which driver to pick from where ever to get that CD mounted for further installation.

Can anybody tell me what to do?

Thanks once more in advance!

J

As I mentioned before I do not own the Beta driver floppy. Where can I get that one if it should be free downloadable?

Thanks once more!

Yeah, without coffee things can get pretty hard, I know ;-)

Anyway, I wasn'tvery successful with my attempts. I installed the drivers (even beta) that looked usable but it keeps me dropping into aksing from what drive it should boot:

sd?d, hd?d, fd?d, en?d, fd?d

It doesn't recognize the CD ROM, at least no manufacturer name is listed in the boot up process. I suppose it is connected to the same BUS as the harddisk (which is recognized). Most of the time I have to press "r" to reboot, pressing "m" for monitor mor or less freezes that old laptop... :( How can I determine what driver to use and what letter combination should be used in what way to get that booted off the CD?

The beta disk has a stupid bug in it, select #2 the adaptec, then the rest of the drivers will show up...  I think its 7,2 will change it to 'more drivers', then #2 being the PII dual controller ATAPI...
