Will a 4g scsi hard drive work on a next color station that has 16mgs ram and nextstep 3.3? I have to replace the drive because it is not functional and any data would be helpfull.
Sure, but with 3.3 you must keep partitions below 2GB each. If you search Google groups for comp.sys.next.*, you'll find some history with people using 9GB drives with four partitions and some dead space.
you can edit the /etc/disktab manually, run disklabel, install your own bootblocks, format the slices..
It's easy once you know how.. the hardest part is calculating offsets, one tool.. scsi------ I forget the other part? scsitool? scsiinfo? something like that will tell you how much of the disk the OS can see......
I have 2 4gig disks in my cube, it can be done!
the gui tool to do it, screws it up though, so dont bother with what seems to be the 'easy' way.

If it is shortly below 4GB you might be lucky to get sometimes 3 partitions a ~1,3 GB. (You have to mount sd0b and sd0c later)
If slightly more than 4GB you get some bizzare size of your partiton like 260MB, in this case you have to do the (/etc/scsimodes, disktab, disk -i, dump/restore), thing.
