I'm about 1.5 weeks from getting my BeBox, finally! Finally received the HDDs for my mono NeXT and have it up and running. Finishing up some software details on it and waiting for my next paycheck so I can afford the trip ;)
woooo! :D
I'm waiting..!
What BeBox have you got, where'd you get it and how much did you pay (if you don't mind me asking). I paid 670US plus about 140US shipping then another 100 to import one from the USA I bought on eBay back in 2005,
Enjoy it, they are very special things.
I friend of mine that lives fairly close to me has two. He bought one and had one given to him years ago. He has always wanted a NeXT and doesn't need/want two BeBoxes. So I'm trading him my Mono Turbo NeXT with all its accessories for one of his BeBoxes. It's a dual 66mhz model. Just the box. No accessories. He installed R5 on it, running great :) It's a very early production model. Its case is grey and its not FCC tested.
So this BeBox is costing me about 450-500usd worth of NeXT equipment and gas for the drive over to his place (about 2 hours away).
not bad! :D
Wicked cool snag! Would love to see some pics. I've always wanted a BeBox but haven't had the funds or oppertunity to buy one... at least yet.
I love and miss BeOS, used it for my prime OS (5.0.3) for about year and half. Stoped just before Be went under when I bought my first OSX machine. A great little OS that didn't go nuts with BS / useless bells and whistles (IMHO).
well, that deal fell through after my turbo NeXT decided to commit suicide :(
I may still snag it somehow though ;P
What did it do to commit suicide?
as far as i can tell, the SCSI controller died.
That sucks... what all are you including in the trade (beyond the slab, monitor, keyboard and mouse)? Just curious...

Helf,
I might be able to help you out in that dept. Since my Mono monitor died, I have a spare Mono Turbo Slab. I verified it's still working last night, but I moved all the stuff into a Color Turbo Slab that was a spare. Make me an offer. Nothing outrageous high either. rofl. I think you know by now that I'm pretty easy to deal w/. I'll even throw in the original Mono System Board that was in the system when I bought it. :D So if anything you could get your other system up & going as well. IM me or drop me an email. Take care.

That does not mean that it is not still netbootable.
yeah, but for my purposes and his, that would be completely useless ;)
One of the machines in our office...
http://www.gypsii.com/place.cgi?op=view&id=98866One of the others is a NeXT cube with a dimension and an extra motherboard (triple-headed, double keyboards) :D
That looks like a non standard color scheme, perhaps a prototype?, AFAIK only blue/grey & blue/beige where sold to developers/the public. There is a picture of a full grey one and also a blue/red one that where used as prototypes. What is the spec of this BeBox.
I think the pics are at the BeBox Zone.
The original colour scheme, as I got it, was blue/grey/beige (for the drives). I have the original (very flakey) drives.
The unit is a 603/66 with 128MB of memory (had to change that as one of the chips had fallen off one of the sticks :)) and a 6.5GB HDD (the original 4GB maxtor is still in there in the second bay).
So you painted it grey? I wanted to paint mine the neon blue/red scheme but obviously it would ruin it's originalty.
No, the case is blue, the bezel is grey and the drives are black. The original drives were beige.
