Has anybody here ever tried to install Mac OS 8 on a daydream-equipped cube or nextstation? I remember reading somewhere that it was impossible because the ROMs on a daydream box are those of a 030 mac.

But, it is actually possible to install Mac OS 8 on a 030 mac if you use an utility called "Wish I were...". It changes the machine gestalt, thus tricking the installer.

You might be able to get away with an 030 since there are reports floating around the net that someone got OS 8 to work on an old Macintosh IIfx.

EDIT: A quick search finds this. (http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/os8_68030.html)

The OS8 hacks have never worked for me, all i have get running was 7.6.1. (Daydream is specified for max. System 7.5 and emulates a 68020 processor, not a 68030).

p.s. (don't know, why they don't let the 68040 run native)
p.s.s with tools like "wish-something" you can run word6.0 and other programs designed for the 68040 cpu
