Title: How to list hard disks on a Cube
Post by: pascalg on April 05, 2008, 02:59:53 PM
I have a Cube and I'm a little confused about what hard drive is present inside. Boot messages indicates that there is a 261Mb hard drive but after the system has booted depending on what folder I click on, the information displayed on the windows says that there is either 760Mb free space on the drive or 1.2Gb.

Is there a way to know what hard drives are present and what are their size without opening the box ? I'm sorry if this question is trivial, but I'm not very familiar with NextStep.

I have another question also: the machine has Nextstep 3.3 and apparently it was used as a server (it is named Srvr). Is there a specific server version of NextStep ?

Thanks.

Pascal.

As far as i know, there wasn't a server specific version.

um.. running the builddisk.app program will show the drives that are present and should indicate their size.

Strangely, the builddisk shows a hardisk icon called startup disk but I can't click on it to show its size and the second is an optical disk icon that says 242Mb. The strange thing is that there is no slot for optical disk on the front of the Cube.

I think I found the answer. I didn't notice that during boot-up the system showed device IBM-34560, but without its size, which is why I didn't notice it. It seems that my system has a 4.5Gb hard disk that was probably partitioned into one startup disk of 260Mb (which was the one I saw during boot) and then 2 other partitions that showed 720Mb and 1.2Gb free space.
