Hi!Guys,I may need your help. Thanks in advance.
The thing is I tried to run Openstep 4.2 on my Intel PCs.I installed Vmware 6.03 and Virtualbox 1.5.4 seperately on one machine and tried installed openstep 4.2.I also tried to reinstalled openstep on another intel pc.I got the following problems:
(1) I first installed vmware 6.03 smoothly. Then I got the boot disk in floppy diver and Openstep 4.2 cd in cd-rom.Then I start installation. When asked for drivers, I choose PIIX variant of the EIDE driver on the Hard Disk, which is from customized driver disk from
http://www.moldus.org/~laurent/GNUstep/OS42_Install.html.Then it went smoothly until the install is complete. But when I restart the newly installed Openstep,it always came out:"system panic: vfs_mountroot error=19,cannot mount root".Any idea?
(2) Then from
http://www.moldus.org/~laurent/GNUstep/OS42_Install.html,I knew virtualbox 1.5.4 might work. This time I choose the same driver and get the same problem. Then I tried again, I chose primary/second EIDE driver and this time I can get into openstep after the installation. But only for the first run, and I shut off the virtual box and restart, the boot screen came out the same as the boot screen from boot ********,which is asking for a new installation.I don't know why?
(3)I have another computer, which already has openstep and is a intel pc.When I started the computer,it freeze at the boot option screen and the keyboard can not work any more.If I boot that machine from boot disk.Same problem.I searched the net and got a idea it maybe a PS/2 mouse driver problem. But Can I fix it because currently I don't have the working openstep(maybe I can try use the temporarily working openstep on virtualbox.Anyone can help me with this?
Thanks for your patientance.
Just finish install Openstep 4.2 on vmware4.2.Reboot the machine and it works.Only the problem (3) listed in previous post left. Thanks anyway.
My wife had a similar problem. It turned out to be a bad keyboard. Do you have another one you can test with? also try the mouse.
I plugged the keyboard and mouse from a working machine and plugged them into my white hardware. So,the keyboard and mouse should be okay.Anyware, thanks -:)
