Title: OpenStep / Rhapsody DR 2 file transfer via floppy?
Post by: Jenne on April 11, 2008, 05:08:54 AM
I've managed to install OpenStep 4.2 on my ThinkPad 240 and Rhapsody DR 2 on my Compaq Armada 500. That Compaq isn't able to change resolutions or display any color so I thought about using the ThinkPad's video driver (VBE 2.0 / VESA) within the Compaq's Rhapsody environment. Now, as long as Rhapsody DR 2 only writes and reads UFS (?) formatted floppies which OpenStep does not seem to recognize or mount how can I transfer that driver with a floppy onto the Compaq?

There is something strange: the DR 2 installation floppy seems to be a different format than the one written by Rhapsody itself. It shows a "PC" icon but can not be read by my Macs or PCs. On the other hand the floppies formatted within Rhapsody can not be written or read by other Macs or PCs, at least none of my systems was able to do that...
For some odd reason OpenStep is only able to read off (and write to) Mac HFS floppies and CDs, Rhapsody can not utilize any of these.

Is there a chance to get that done?

Title: Openstep 4.2 & Rhapsody incompatibilities

I tried the same route and it didn't work. DR2 doesn't recognize the Openstep Vesa 2.0 driver as a valid display driver.

Rhapsody DR2 has very very limited FS support. It is easier to try NFS as a sharing facility from Openstep 4.2 and Rhapsody. That's what I did to move files between them. However, many apps and frameworks from both belong to different versions hence the dynamic linker will complain if you try to mix them.

Hope this helps. G.
