It's 3gb... but worth it, imo :)

well, kb7sqi has it throttled pretty tight since it's his home connection. I would do a torrent, but the only place even applicable for me is work and with the way we have everything set up, I never could get a working torrent outgoing :(

Actually, upload isn't throttled at all. Downloading is throttled to 150K/sec because so many people are hitting the server. Right now 8 people are trying to d/l just the video. Besides a several other downloads that are going on. :D And it's not throttled to 150K/sec max, that's per download. So, figure it out. :wink: Considering, all of that & 2 people are downloading from the web server as well, hmm. I wonder where all my bandwith is going. lol. Enjoy.
heh, wow. well, I plan on getting cable turned back on in a month or so (I hope to GOD I can do it) and i'll be on 8mbit again, at the least, so I'll throw a server up and start mirroring sites as well. Might as well spread the love around :)

Hey all. I've had to put some restrictions on the sftp server. I hate doing it, but since I work from home, not having a fast connection isn't an option. I had over 15 people trying to download all at the same time last night & my internet was crawling. I can't have that. Sorry. So, here's the new limits.
First off there's a Global Download Limit of 200K per second
The limit per connection is 100K/sec w/ 3 connections max. Only 1 connection per IP also. I think that's fair so atleast 3 different people can be downloading at the same time. I hope everyone can understand. I don't mind providing space/access to all things NeXT that people want to share, but I need to be able to use my bandwidth for work also. :wink:

I just tried to unpack it and even within the 5.6Gb of free space on my linux box I still ran out of space.
the unpacked iso is about 150-200mb larger than the bzip2 .. its not much, but i did it just to slightly ease the load on kb7sqi's 'net. so you will need about 6.5gb free.

It came from Helf, why would I care? :wink: Only thing I asked was not to pass around the username/password to the site freely. ie, if some wants access, the only thing they have to do is ask & I'm happy to provide it. The site was created specifically so everyone here could share anything NeXT/Rhapsody/MacOSX 1.x related. I'm just providing space/bandwidth. Several people have uploaded stuff. I think it's great. You guys create a torrent & I'll up the d/l speed. :D When downloading iso images of cd's, the server isn't bogged down for days w/ a single download. rofl. Sound fair? Take care.

This torrent is just for my video dvd rip and a few extras. None of the other ISOs. You will have to get access to the SCP server from kb7sqi to get anything else.

Yes, could someone please do that? I'm completely out of space to do it on my system and I have misplaced the original torrent so I can't set up my server to seed it for a while.
I am seeding it again, but no peers currently. 40G sent so far, so I guess a few others have gotten it. Any help seeding would be great, as I have to stop from time to time when I need the bandwidth or have to take the machine down for maintenance.
Demonoid is doing some maintanance ATM, but as soon as it is back online I'll download it and seed as much as I can.

Great to hear that Empathy, and thanks for the help seeding. Even a few more low speed seeds are appreciated, as it covers for when I am down and keeps it from being booted as a "no-seed" torrent. It is a low activity torrent, and does not use much bandwidth, so I just leave it seeding at 20KB in the background.
I just watched part of it again over the weekend, and I am still amazed by "collaboration" demo that Steve gives. I particularly like the section about receiving the fax and using an OCR services app to convert it to text. That is still a big deal for companies today, let alone back then given the finicky state of OCR software then.
I am unable to access that torrent because I am not a Demonoid member and registrations are not currently active. I would need an invite code to access the torrent, or be told how to connect to the server offering the direct download.

Are you getting a connection to the tracker? Does your client see any seeds?
PM me your ip and port that your bittorrent client is using, and I will try to add u manually as a peer.

And all the other public trackers I had been trying to use are notoriously unreliable, so I have stopped seeding. I guess it is possible that you might find it eventually through the DHT if it runs trackerless, but the swarm would be so small that I do not know how long it would take to find it.
I am up for any other ideas, or if someone has their own tracker that we could host this on privately.
I could try relocating to ThePirateBay which I both believe to be reliable and not immediately vulnerable to political attack however getting through registration seems to be rocket science. Every username I can think up (even just slamming away at the keyboard) results in a "NAME ALREADY TAKEN" message.
I removed the demon and added the openbittorrent.com tracker back to my client. It responded successfully so I am seeding again. :D You will need to add this tracker to your torrent and details are on their site. I am the only seed currently, but hopefully that will change.
I have not had great luck with its stability in the past, but we will see.

Rob, a torrent file is just a small computer-readable file that describes where to download other files. BitTorrent is a a means of transferring files that makes use of peer-to-peer connectivity to help a download go faster. The more peers you have, the faster your download.
Once you use a torrent client to download the files, you can play them in DVD Player.app and QuickTime Player.app.
The files could be converted for upload to YouTube, but there are probably legal problems with that.
Sounds cool , so I have set up drop box not sure if that is all I need? Is there a link to get started , do I need an app called BitTorrent ? Can I FTP it ? As far as legal issues or copywrite if it is made by NeXT I would probably ask for and hopefully receive permission from my friends in Apple legal to convert to YouTube as it would be used for educational purposes. Apparently Demonoid's tracker has come back on and their website has relocated to D2.vu. While I am currently in no position to restart my seed I recommend anyone else to see if updating their tracker information brings the torrent back to life again.
Be aware that the site is still under investigation for potential phishing malware. It was flagged down by the domain host and went back online a few hours later.
