I have now finally almost put it all together for a start and attached NeXT Laser Printer Cable and cannot print. It seems to say I should set a port in the readme through the configure utility. Configure utility has a question mark on it in administrator panel and as I said when clicked on message comes up that it is damaged and or corrupt etc. The software I am using looks to be clean (NeXTStep 3.3 on NeXTStation Color 16mg ram) and new and yet as it stands I am unable to have computer recognize printer, is there any suggestion outside of get new OS for it would be a difficult one for me. Do I need to reinstall OS from scratch to specs, any good ideas....? Last and not lest is this in any way maybe related to hardware?

Partly. Configure.app is not for black hardware. Use Print Manager as per the online documentation.
Would you have any idea why I get the message 'printer cover is open' and what I might do to remedy this problem? I bought computer to write a book and it's a bit difficult without a working printer.

Examine the printer cover & look for a micro switch... with any luck you can tape it down so it'll always think it's closed. Somewhere there is a magnet, switch or something that will tell the printer the lid status...

Oh I can remember having that problem w/ my laser printer. :-) That drove me crazy. LOL. I found the heavyist book I could find & set it on top of the printer. That got rid of the message. Now I use an old SPARCprinter that uses that special card for i/o. You have to re-compile ghostscript to get it working under Solaris 7/8/9. It's a hack, but the printer still prints like a champ. So I use another old Sparc5 as a print server. Every system in the house uses that printer for plain text/b&w printing. Does a great job. It's alot like the old NeXT Laser Printer.
