I installed VMMouse driver but the mouse didn't work.Is this because I am using a USB mouse? And becuase the mouse is freezing,I have difficulty to switch off the OS4.2 safely? Is there any hotkey to shut it down safely? Thanks.

An USB mouse should work as well as VMMouse gets the mouse coords passed in directly from VMware. So each mouse that works in your X server is available to VMware and VMMouse.
Is the driver failing to recognize the mouse at all or is the mouse not behaving as it should?

You can use AltGr+NumLock to pop up the Kernel NMI-monitor. Thhere you have the choice to restart (r) and halt (h) which both first try to bring down the system safely and in the case of restart reboot it. If used a second time while the sequence is still running they just shut it down or restart.
I will try this issue. The VMMouse diver didn't recognize the USB mouse anyway.I think maybe the driver has some problem.I transfer VMMouse.config with a floppy disk and I found the files' names are changed. So I changed them back manually, which may have some mistake. This time I will burn the drivers onto a CD and try again.
Had the chance to try with an USB mouse today and it worked without any problem like I already assumed.
