Work in a cube?  Only in an '040.

Work externally on a NeXT?  Probably.

Will it read NeXT MO disks?  Probably not.

None of those will work... the way the media is mounted is different.

Unless I stand corrected, only 256Mb, single sided Canon disks and the usual NeXT media work.

Yes, and even non-NeXT Canon drives cannot read NeXT media.

Double sided Canon disks work as well. I've read them in my NeXT MO.

I have a non-functioning MO unit. I observe this behaviour:

- the unit will swallow a disk (servo-assisted)
- I cannot automatically eject the disk; I have to use a NeXT tool to manually eject it using the manual ejector hole
- once I manually eject a disk, I cannot re-insert it (the unit will no longer swallow it) until I switch the whole cube off and on again
- after I switch the cube off and on again, I can insert the disk again

If I work with the cube disassembled, with the MO drive connected only to the power and the MO ribbon cable, I cannot get the unit to swallow the disk.

While working trying to repair the MO unit, I'd like to get to the stage where I can work with the cube disassembled and test what happens when I insert the disk into it. I think it is plain why this is needed to be able to effectively work on repairing the disk, re-connect it and try it out quickly without having to disassemble, reassemble the cube each time a minor change/repair is attempted.

Why this behaviour? Why will the drive not swallow the disk a second time unless the computer is switched off and on again. Is there any way around it?
