To those who don't know, I had that problem with the root device? error. Once I played around with the types of drives I finally figured out on my own that the DVD-ROM drive from my PC, though works with 9 and X, worked well with those OS'es, but with 5.6 it did not. So, what I did was take out the PC DVD-ROM drive and replace it with the DVD-RAM drive from my son's soon to be digital audio system G4.
Presto!! it worked like a charm!
so, not all is meant to run on every platform.
Wow talk about picky eh?
Glad your install is going further.

On your own? Really?
Funny, as I seem to recall telling you that was the issue in
this post (

this post (

QuoteThe DVD rom drive is NOT really an apple branded one, I took one out of my PC and it seems to boot fine into OS 9 and or using the mac os x server cd - it too boots OS 9 correctly.
... which had me reiterate myself once again in
this post (

I am not surprised that you had no intension of following through on your request for help, you know, this one...
QuoteI am about to leave my cell number for someone to call me and walk me through this.. in fact, I am doing that right now.. 443.929.8845 - if you can help me, I will pay you through paypal $50.00 to help me get this thing at least to shut the **** with this ROOT DEVICE crap!
While the $50.00 for my trouble would have been nice, at the very least you could acknowledged the fact that I provided the solution for you.
