Hey all,
Just wanted to thank each of you for your amazing contributions to this forum! In less than 2 days of work, I have a very smoothly running VM of NextStep 3.3, with a display at 1280x1024 and 32-bit color, a working mouse, basic and somewhat crude network functionality (WWW and FTP work great, SMB only works the tiniest bit, no luck with IMAP or SMTP yet), and a nice array of slick little apps to show off with!
I'll be presenting my NextStep VM at an Apple User's Group meeting, as a part of a talk on the "history of the modern Mac" and I've got to say that, though I'd read a lot about NS, I'm pretty darn impressed. You can really see how OS X has benefited from it.
I'm dying to get my hands on OpenStep 4.x if anyone knows where it can be purchased? Black Hole seems to be defunct now (no reply to my e-mails) and I've been watching eBay for the past 2 weeks to no avail.
I posted a walk-thru of my experience installing on VMWare 6 -- nothing new to most of you, but it was handy for me to document what I learned, and capture some of the more useful links -- at
http://software.jonandnic.comWould love to trade best practices/ideas for software to get running/tips for running in a VM with any of you out there. Drop me a line!
I have a set of burned CDs with OS4.2 dev/user, etc :) I can mail you duplicates. I know they work, I've used them to install OS4.2 onto my Dell GX1 desktop.
Congrats on getting it working. I run NS3.3 on a NeXTstation Turbo Color.
Wow, this is a blast from the past. Forgot I had an account here when I went to post about my NextStation repair project.
The above URL no longer works, but the content is still online here:

Hello Codepoet: I'm not defunct , Black Hole is still alive and kicking apparently the spam filters are amazing as everything but business emails are getting through so an alternative email address is bhi1@ix.netcom.com or phone 303-741-9998 , Business is great and I'm computerpowwow on eBay :) and yes I can drop box or google drive NeXTSTEP and Openstep ISO images for a nominal help keep the lights on fee or burn cd's.
Best regards Rob Blessin
