Title: nxmp3play - where does it still reside?

I've been looking for nxmp3play today (just got another slab) but I'm not digging it up anywhere. I've checked the usual archives (and uncovered some stuff I hadn't seen/looked for before) to no avail..

Has anyone seen it?

Quote
NXMP3Play Version 3 - a command line player for MP3 sound files for the old 'black' m68k NeXT hardware. Runs in realtime on Turbo boxes and (22 kHz play) on 'normal' NeXTs. This version is fully 68040 assembler optimized. Version 3 fixes the console error messages on exit but is otherwise identical to Version 2 (and equally fast). DISCONTINUED AND DOWNLOAD NOT POSSIBLE AS FHG CHANGED ITS TERMS FOR MP3 DECODERS AUGUST 2002

WHy not use XS3Mod? Awesome music player. Plays 44kHz, 256Kbps, stereo MP3s perfectly fine on my Color turbo :) Does playlists and everything. A lot like winamp or what not, actually. If you can't find a copy, I'll get it off my NeXT in a few days and email it to you.

I'm running this on a NA Mono.  I have used XS3Mod on a Color Station and on Intel in the past, but I just can't deal with the interface!

Thanks for the link!  Now I have to get the basics installed (Y2K Patches, ssh, etc..) so I can get some toys loaded!

heh, the interface isn't too bad... Could be better though :)

check these out, if you haven't, http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1125&highlight=mp3+player

I use it on my turbo color. Pretty awesome to stream internet radio stations on my 16 year old machine.

What do you think is wrong with the interface ?

It's not wrong, just shocking - completely unlike any other NS/OS application, and this opinion dates back to the turn of the century, when Windows apps were getting skinned (badly) left and right, and the standard of GNU/Linux interface theming was Enlightenment .15 (http://c.fsdn.com/fm/screenshots/23207.jpg?1016715136), which it struck me as doing an un-needed "me too" impersonation of.

* NS4 Beta-style window bars (how did they manage that, anyway? I didn't know you could specify any attributes of that resource, but I digress..)

* The animated TIFF title thingy

* The overall lack of conformity to the conventions of other apps (all the custom views; analyzers, etc)

* The (in my eyes) unpleasant artifacting of the rounded control buttons

I guess, it reminds me of certain French automobiles (http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/100-greatest/03-large/29-citroen-sm.jpg), which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

To be fair, I ran it last night on a mono slab.  If it's the only application running, it does a fair job of decoding large (20+MB) MP3 files.  Minimal skipping, pauses, etc.

It is doing a much better job than either nxmp3play or mpg123, plus it has the killer (realtime) EQ, but I haven't managed to transfer an NS33 patch 3 tarball that will successfully extract and install.  After that, I expect the usual, stellar performance of nxmp3play (even though it downsamples to 22KHz)..
