My Cube does not have a 13W3 connector (is a B&W Cube), also I am not using the 13W3 CRT monitor, I wish to use a VGA LCD.  Is there a soundbox or cable I can use to connect a VGA monitor to the 19pin monitor connector?

Cool, thnx I did see that in the forums earlier today.

Anyone willing to sell me one of these DB19 to VGA (DB15) adapters?

I'm having a DB-19 extension cable (so I can have my soundbox on my desk and the slab in a rack with a bunch of other workstations) made right now by the folks at oddcables.com.  If you can provide them with the specs of what you need they can make it for you.

I found the DB-19 connectors online no problem but just didn't feel like futzing with 38 tiny solder points!  I looked around for crimp-on ribbon ones but couldn't find any.

Anyway, they're good people over there (local for me) and have been in the biz for a long time.  I had a DIN to composite video cable for my (then new) Atari 800 back in '81.  If you do contact them it should freak them out having someone else asking about a DB-19 cable!

Title: may just order supplies and make it, I have the pinouts...
Post by: sdinet on August 14, 2008, 04:14:03 PM
I found all the supplies I need to make one for about $10.  I can get the DB19 "crimp" style male adapters and VGA adapter from: http://www.prelovedcomputers.com.

The have everything except the hood for the DB19, but I can find that elsewhere.  The big deal is they have the crimp style DB15 and DB19, as I hate to have to solder all of those wires.

Also, for the members, do I need to use 75 ohm resistors for the RGB cables.

What wire controls to power-on function from the soundbox/keyboard?
Title: I DID IT!!! DB19 to DB19/VGA
Post by: sdinet on October 06, 2008, 12:18:19 AM
I ordered some parts and got the DB19 to VGA/DB19 Y cable working!!  Now I have an LCD working on my MONO cube!   The image quality is perfect, no ghosting, no artifacts, PERFECT!

Now my only issue is the vga image is BLACK and WHITE only, no greyscale.  I connected all RGB signals, instead should I connect just R or G or B, instead of all 3 (RGB)?

I figured it out!! The brightness was too high, simply lower it with the keyboard controls!!!  (I will also try a 75ohm resistor)

Way cool!

Perhaps you can be persuaded to do a mini "how to" tutorial....

Title: Completed Cable
Post by: sdinet on October 06, 2008, 02:46:58 PM
Here is the completed DB19 to DB19/VGA cable.  It is working GREAT!!  It takes about 4 hours to complete and the parts are VERY HARD to come by.  But it was WELL worth it!

I have had many people ask if I can make a cable for them, it is a really big chore, but with twin girls and a stay-at-home wife, we could use the extra income.  I would consider selling these for $99 (that includes labor, parts and priority shipping). I know that seems ridiculously high, but trust me these are a real pain for me to make from scratch.

PLEASE DO NOT attempt to create a Y cable if you are NOT an expert at electronics, you WILL RISK severe damage to your cube/slab, soundbox and yourself.
