Hi All,
Bought a NeXT slab and grey-scale monitor a few years ago as a "future collectible."
Would very much like to use it (works great). Curious what I can do with it as so much has changed in the IT world.
Can I attach it to the internet - other suggestions?
Any input greatly appreciated.

As long as it's behind a firewall. The server apps are long out of maintenance and are insecure.
Don't expect a web browser. 'lynx' is the best you'll get there for usability if you're impatient.
my Cube is being used as web server, and just for fun of having a very good quality system and looks cool

I agree w/ cubist that it's very important to put the system behind a firewall. It really all depends on what you want to use the system for. Do you want to use it as a server or are you just wanting to use is for running older NeXT apps, desktop usage, etc? If you want to use for a server, I'd never recommend it for a "production" site. If you just want to use for a light web server, irc server, etc. Check the packges I have available for download. Back in the day I used use my old Turbo Slab for everything, it was my dns, web server, mail server, & my news server. It did it all just fine. But today, I only use my Sparc 5 running OPENSTEP 4.2 as my personal Web Server. But the box is still behind a firewall & I keep the package up to date. And if you're going to use "lynx" for surfing, I'd recommend my links package over that. LOL. If you have CubX installed you can use the -g flag & bring it up if full glorious color. ;-) It's not FireFox, but it does handle some sites better than OmniWeb. Take care.
I use my NeXT for almost all my daily computing needs. When I had internet at home, I used it for surfing, email, ssh, ftp, chat, etc etc. Has the few games I ever really play (tetris, nethack...). Perfect for document editing. I even do some simpler image editing with it :)
Depending on what your needs are, there is a TON of stuff you can use a NeXT for.
I used mine mostly for IRC....
I mean it's a great BSD 4.3 box, but with 40mb of ram and a 25Mhz cpu, don't expect it to be a home CRAY....
I would recommend using the remote desktop client and create shortcuts on the Next Menu system for FIREFOX, THUNDERBIRD, etc and use it like a modern day computer (all processing is done on your server machine, only display is forwarded). Makes me think, can we also forward audio with the desktop somehow (thinking youtube videos, etc).

I do use Firefox, Thunderbird, & even pidgin quite a bit from my NeXT systems. I just login into one my Sun boxes. Works great. With my port of rdesktop, you can even log onto a Widoze box if you like. I remember Hanul & Markus testing video w/ that back a few years ago, when I first ported it. Hanul stated that the video was pretty choppy. I wouldn't even want to try it with a 25-33Mhz NeXT system. Hanul was using a HP Gecko to test & Markus was using a 400 Mhz x86 laptop running OPENSTEP 4.2. I've used it a few times myself, but I never tried video/audio. Like Cables for command line, having CubX, definately helps extend the life of any NeXT system. :-) Take care.
I used to have one of my Cubes in my office...used it to connect to Appletalk and Novell shared drives and such. Used the mail app and did minor web browsing with Omniweb as well, but of course, thats' way out of date. Other than a listserver running BSD OS, it was the only Unix machine on a network of ~200 Win98/NT and pre-OSX Mac's, as well as Novell and Win2k servers.
