Looks like this would be useful to have...but where can I get a copy for OS 4.2?
I remember this was freeware and damn useful on my NeXTStation...Google and Forum searches have turned up nothing...
Also, is there a copy of Fiend (The Dock extender) available for OS 4.2?
TIA,
Tim

Hey Tim,
They're both extremely handy. You can find them here:
http://next.68k.org/ftp.peak.org/next/apps/utils/workspace/dock-extenders-etc/Fiend.1.4.1.NIHS.b.tar.gzhttp://next.68k.org/ftp.peak.org/next/apps/archiveutil/Opener/3.4b/Opener.3.4b.NIHS.pkg.b.tar.gzTake care.
Brilliant! Ta very much!!!
Shouldn't we have a sticky thread for this sort of thing?
Whoops -- spoke too soon. Opener.app won't install 'Errors while installing' (this is under OpenSTEP 4.2)...does anyone have an expanded Opener.app they cam e-mail me?
And Fiend doesn't work at all...
EDIT: Yes they do...I'd uncompresses the tar.gz's on the Macintosh side before making the .iso... it seems that OS doesn't like this. They're nicely installed now.
TIA,
Tim

Glad to see that you got everything installed. The
OpenUP app (http://www.stepwise.com/Software/OpenUp/) by Scott Anguish works well on OPENSTEP too. In addition to the other file archives out there, we host the files as well.

Open Up was the one I ended up using... as an aside, you wouldn't know of any video drivers for VMWare apart from the Atomic Object one, would you?
Under OS X & VMWare Fusion I'm stuck at 1024 x 768...

You can also do a
gunzip *
tar -x *.tar
do get the install packages

I don't know of another driver besides that one. I'm not sure if it would be helpful, but I did see a page where a user mentions running NEXTSTEP 3.3 on VMWare 6 at a resolution of 1280 × 1024 32-bit color. You might be able to contact him for help.

Actually,it worked out OK -- gkaplan gave me some advice about making the mouse run better under Parallels, so I can use that now with its VESA driver to run OS at 1280 x 1024 in full-screen mode. It's really nice...especially on a dual-monitor set-up...:D

Also, I can use the MacOS X App Switcher (Cmd-Tab) to release the mouse from NeXTSTEP / Parallels, which circumvents another problem...
I still have
Blakespot Envy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/blakespot/2419063647/sizes/l/in/set-72157604578580203/), though...
Oh, well, sound and networking next...
Looks nice. ;-) I run OPENSTEP 4.2 under Parallels & VMWare Fusion. I prefer Parallels because the screen is faster, but I hate to tell you sound don't work. Networking works fine though. I wish sound worked though. Take care.
