I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction...
I have a nextstep 3.3 cisc install disc, developer disc and a VMWare Nextstep3.3 intel installation that can read this iso.
I have a Nextstation with v3.2 that I would like to upgrade so I can put the Y2K patches on and so on...
I tried using the tool to set up a net install, that didn't work- I put in all the requisite information and still it doesn't respond to my nextstation's bootp requests...
Now I was thinking of just NFS sharing the cdrom from the vmware instance and mounting on the Nextstation and running the upgrade application (will this work?) --- but I am always getting "access denied" when I try to mount the NFS share on the nextstation. I am able to mount a NFS share from my Sun box with no problem.
So: 1. any clue as to how i can make this above mess work?
2. is there any utility to mount an .iso image on the nextstation and so I can just run the installer from the image directly
3. is there any problem with upgrading ns 3.2 to 3.3 in this way - OR - do I need to boot it from a floppy/cdrom and upgrade it that way (only way is to find a scsi cdrom and boot floppies for moto)?
thanks,
rp

http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1381 on netbooting to install (what you do on Sparc is pretty similar to m68k). The Sysadm manual helps a lot, but most of this is very seamless so long as a) dhcp/bootp works b) tftp works and c) nfs works. Do set up everything in NetInfo otherwise you're in for trouble. What's providing dhcp on your network? tftp should be done by the nextstep x86 box.
