NeXTcube with Apple CD-ROM drive?

I have a fully functional NeXTcube but I wonder what to do if I ever have to do a clean install - the hard drive dies etc. I have the original install CD, but no NeXT CD-ROM drive.

I do have an old Apple CD-ROM drive (caddy model) which I used to install A/UX 3 on my Quadra 700 and I wonder if I can use that one? Does NeXT support any third-party CD-ROM drives?

Nearly all Apple drives can be used: the CD SC, the 150, the 300 and the 600. Sometimes the 600 fails because (maybe) of it´s speed so I suppose You own a caddy 150 or 300 drive which is fine.

Don´t forget that You might need the additional boot floppies...

I use an Apple 600e CD drive on my NeXTstations without issue.

Well then, macmies, seems to me that only I had some troubles with the 600 ;-) In fact the turbo color never had issues with that one but my cube.

just to add a datapoint.. i used a SCSI DVD rom drive i pulled from an SGI Fuel.  which leads me to think almost anything would work.
