Hello everyone!

I am embarrassed because I can not install OPENSTEP 4.2(J) in Parallels Desktop For Mac 4.0. My machine is MacBook(early 2008) 2.4GHz 4GB RAM 250HDD. It becomes like the following screens and it becomes a kernel panic ,though the installation advances on the way.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone taught the procedure of the installation of OS4.2.

Sorry for my English poorness.

Thank you.

I wish I could help....

would you consider qemu?  I'm almost sure that the Japanese version of OpenSTEP & NeXTSTEP are the same at the kernel, but then it may not be...

neozeed,

thank you for your reply.

i know qemu but it thinks that Parallels excels qemu in me if it says in respect of performance, and although i actually installed Winodws XP, Ubuntu Linux, and Haiku OS, i am satisfied with them.

now what i dont know is "use root device : sd%d hd%d fd%d...".
what is "root device"? what is "sd%d" etc.
im unacquainted with UNIX command and prompt...

the root device should be sd0 ....

what this is saying is that it either did not recognize your CD-ROM driver, or it does not regonize your NeXTSTEP cdrom or ISO image.

When you boot from floppies, what is the sequence you type in?  Perhaps you are loading the wrong driver....

daisuke --

Parallels 4.0 has intel VT-x turned on permanently. OpenStep needs this turned off in order to run.

You may have more success installing under Parallels 3.0.

Hmm well it's not seeing the CD that's for sure, and it seems to not see the hard disk either.

From the error message I see that the IDE driver didn't see anything...

"Instance 0 of Dual EIDE failed the probe"...

so you are loading the right stuff, but the VM may not be configured correctly.

Try disabling APM/ACPI in the VM's bios.  Also toggle the PnP (if it's on, turn it off, likewise if it's off, turn it on).
