Has anyone that has one of the 1 or 2gb jaz drives ever benchmarked them with a NeXT? I'm curious as to how fast they are.

I never did any benchmark testing, but on my slab the 1G jaz drive was noticeably faster than the 480M internal drive that system had.  Was very nice having different loads available with just the insert of a cartridge, and very good for cloning some of the slabs I got before upgrading NS/OS.  The biggest problem is the reliability issues that jaz drives/media have always had.  The cartridges will die, it is not a matter of if, but when.  If you decide to do it, make sure you go to grc.com and get the "trouble in paradise" app so you can pre test and validate your drive and media before using them.

I got a Jaz drive here unfortunately no Jaz media. The local Value Village was selling a dozen or so a few weeks ago but for the insane cost of $10 per used cartridge.
