I'd really like to use mathematica, but the program is always locked to a specific NeXT... And I don't know how to get around that.
Anyone have any ideas or have a turbo color or cube or something with a working copy of mathematica on it?
I just sold a NeXT Dimension cube that had mathematica preloaded on it!?!
I am sure someone here has the original software or at least a copy they might be willing to share, I will check my CD's to see if I have an original too...
I have a copy of the original software... But the serial code is coded to the MAC ID or something like that on each NeXT. :(
I have a copy here of Version 2 that is still shrinkwrapped in its packaging though I really don't want to open it as I have a copy that works on multiple systems (no lock) that I have backed up on my server.

It might be worth contacting Wolfram if you really want to do it. The license came with black hardware and they did do transfers. You'll be stuck at nothing more recent than 3.x. But it'll work. Getting them interested in doing the transfer might be challenging....
This is of interest to me as well as a soon to be graduate student. I could just get Mathematica for OS X with academic discount, but it would be way more cool to run it on a NeXTStation and the license might be cheaper. Helf if you contact Wolfram, please post how it works out.

I tried contacting Wolfram in the past and the only answer I could ever get was that they no longer supported such old versions and would not be able to change my license over :(
Pentium, can I get that copy of mathematica off you?
There is still a page for Mathematica 3.0 for NeXT (NIH) at Blackhole, Inc. $49.95 plus shipping. Don't know, if it is indeed still available there.

If someone have a licensed copy and gives you the keys you can do the trick with sethostid. (you have to set every time before starting mathematica to the hostid for wich it is licensed)
