All,

The powerbutton on my 17" color MegaPixel N4001 is acting a bit flakey.  It no longer stays depressed in the on position, so I have to manually hold it (i.e. jam in a strip of paper) to keep my monitor from turning off.

I managed to remove the power button by doing a bit of exploratory surgery, but failed to see anything mechanically wrong with the switch.  I did not take the switch apart.  At this point, I'm assuming that something inside the switch such as a hook or catch is broken.

Has anyone had this problem before?  I'm thinking at this point I need to replace the power button.  Does anyone know what part I need to look for?  I did not remove the metal cage due to concerns about high voltage.  Are the wires connecting the power button safe to work on?  If not, is there a safe way to degauss the monitor so I can work on it?

Thanks,

Brian Moore

I have the same problem on one of mine.  I haven't done anything about it yet, but if you do, be sure to let us know what you find out!

Typically monitors and other appliances will switch on/off the low voltage side of the supply.  The monitor (tube) will have a step-up power supply so the 120v side will be where your power switch is.

If you can find a part# or manufacturer on the switch, you might try to do a google search.  If you have enough information, I would try Mouser Electronics for replacement parts.  Generally speaking, they have a great selection of stuff and you might be able to find a replacement part there.

Here is the URL you seek
