I have recently installed my copies of NeXTSTEP 3.3 and OPENSTEP 4.2 into VMware Fusion.  Just now I went to untar my LocalApps.tar archive... only to discover that 90% of the applications are "Motorola 68K"-only applications.

BUMMER!

TOTAL BUMMER, especially since there is no m68k emulator in the x86 versions.

I don't have space to pull out my NeXT hardware, so I guess I won't be running many apps.

what is the history of this LocalApps.tar archive you speak of?  An old backup from the 90's from a nextstation?

That's exactly what it is.  I've owned my 68030 Cube Prototype for 17-18 years or so, and this was my backup of its /LocalApps directory.

Well, since you can't use the cube because of space, just bring it over this way the next time you come over to Greensboro. LOL  :P   No need to bring the keyboard/monitor.  I'm covered there.     Seriously.  Remember when I was living over in Raleigh, you borrowed several of my archive CD's.  You should find most of the "important" apps  w/ installers on 2 CD's for both m68k/x86.  Start digging through the office, I bet they're still there. ;-)  If not, I can make some copies.  That should get you back up & going for most things.  The other stuff I have spread around the different systems, so I'm sure I got you covered there also.    The next time you're heading over this way though, we need to hook up & do lunch or something though.  It's been quite a while!  I can bring my 560E along.  Bring your laptop & we'll work on it while catching up.

Edit: Hey Eagle, btw, you ever see that copy of my MachTen 2.3 Professional laying around in your stacks of stuff?  I haven't been able to find since the move.  Man, it's hard too believe it's been that long.

Armus2112, eagle has been around NeXT systems for quite sometime.  I have copies of his archives around here some where.  :-)  Seeing some of the stuff he ran on his cube back in the hay day was pretty cool.  I figure if I keep hassling/haggling w/ him. He'll give up the Cube some time. rofl.    Just Kidding.  Can you tell we know each other? ;-)

Yeah, I don't know if I can ever give up my prototype unit - that is just so cool.

or I'll take some NeXT hardware from someone, I have just an Openstep x86 pc  :D   or I could snag something from ebay perhaps one day.
