See if you can message the buyer and see if you can pay him to go get it scanned.

eBay keeps user IDs secret from everyone except for the bidder and the seller, now.

Yeah.  Actually, I would have BIN'd it myself but it went up while I was out of the house for most of the day.  Oh well.
Title: Poster scan
Post by: memorezguy on June 08, 2009, 10:29:19 PM
I'm sorry.  I didn't realize that folks were looking for a scan of the poster until after I had already packaged and shipped it out.  Unfortunately, my all-in-none printer died last week so I wouldn't have been able to scan it anyway.  Plus I was reticent to remove the poster from its original tube.

I am emailing the buyer to request as a favor that he scan the poster and send me the image.  I can then host the image online for everyone's benefit.

I'm going through my 30 year+ archives of computer industry memorabilia and anticipate locating more of my NeXT items.  I will post here a notice before I list things on eBay so folks have a heads up.  I will refrain from listing anything with Buy It Now to give folks a fair chance as well.  I wouldn't even be selling these items except for the fact that I'm raising funds for my medical needs, so I appreciate folks' understanding about the poster.

On a side note, I used to work with Mitch Kapor (Lotus), Adam Osborne (Osborne Computer and Paperback Software) and Marc Canter (Macromind, Macromedia).  I will have some interesting and quite unique items going up later this week and next weekend for those of you interested in other computer memorabilia and collectibles.

Title: Good news about the NeXT launch poster!
Post by: memorezguy on June 15, 2009, 02:48:11 PM
I just emailed with the fellow who purchased my copy of the poster.  He wrote:

"I have been following the threads on NeXTcomputers.org - I tried to reply myself but I am still waiting for an account authorisation. I will gladly do a scan of the Poster for you, I have a friend who runs a print business, pretty sure he has a large scanner. I might even be able to produce full size replicas, for a price. Either way I am perfectly happy to distribute the full res scan to whoever wants it. Please can you pass this on to everyone (still not auth'd)."

His shipment is in transit and he should receive it in a week or so.

On a separate note, I should have the bulk of my remaining NeXT items ready for sale in the next 48 hours.

Cheers.

Hi All

I finally got on here - been trying since the auction went live.

Anyway, I am the very fortunate winner of the auction that memorezguy put up. Sorry to all that I pipped to the post. However the good news is that I am happy to get a full rez scan done for you all.

As I said to memorezguy I might even be able to produce a full size replica poster - details of cost, paper, shipping (I live in the UK) etc, I will post here when I have them.

Does anyone know the legality of making copies of this poster? I know that Apple swallowed up NeXT when SJ moved back but did they assume copyright ownership of previous marketing materials?

I will post again once shipment arrives.

I don't think that anybody will care if you make copies of the poster so long as you don't sell them for more than the shipping cost

I emailed Apple Legal a few years ago about making available copies of all the NeXT VHS tapes I have.  They said, effectively, to go for it but they wouldn't officially say one way or another, and that there was always a chance a third party might take issue too.

I'd be very surprised if they cared, though there's always a chance that the photographer who took the shot might actually still own some right on the image.

Luckily, several of them have been distributed already after being digitized by the guy I bought the tapes from (I'm pretty sure they're the source material for that DVD that's been torrenting around for a while).

One of these days I need to get around to making those available in better quality and to also add the rest of them that I've accumulated since.  I'll add it back to my TODO list...
