So I recently purchased a NeXT Turbo Dimension, and it came with a DSP memory expansion module!!!
What is this used for, which applications require the extra memory, what does it do for the user?
Thanks!
It does exactly as it sounds. It expands th amount of available memory for the DSP to I think 96k.
of course, just wondering which applications require the extra memory or what difference the user notices. Does the OS utilize the extra memory, or only demanding audio/video applications?
It's only useful for applications written to use the DSP, i.e. expanding the DSP memory won't make the normal desktop apps faster.
Aren't DSP memory modules quite rare? I've never seen one for sale.

They are indeed. There are a few out there, as someone was selling some NOS ones a few years ago, but sold them pretty quickly.
oooo.. lucky! It is one of the pieces I REALLY want to complete my Slab ;(
Congrats on the find, tho! :)
You know, if someone was REALLY nice, they could help finish designing the schematics for the DIY DSP module in the projects section. All you would really need is a pen, paper and an ohmmeter.

Agreed, If I just had one of this I would do it, the same day
I'm game for that! Actually I work for a medical company, what if I could get a digital X-Ray of it, what that be even better?

Wow, you can do that?
If that allows us to see all the traces I'm totally game for a pic or two.
