Dear NeXT Community,
I have the following problem:
Using NeXTStep under VMWare Fusion running on my Mac with Mac OS X v10.6 i do not get the correct gamma value for the virtual display.
NeXTStep looks too dark. I assume, VMWare uses a gamma value of 2.2, which fits for Windows, but not for NeXTStep, OPENSTEP or Mac OS X up to v10.5, which use a gamma value of 1.8.
Switching the gamma value in the Mac OS X preferences to 1.8 makes the VMWare display brighter, but then Mac OS X of course looks aweful.
I wonder if there is a possibility to change the gamma value in NeXTStep or somewhere in the VMWare preferences.
I already tried this PrefPane:
http://www.nextcomputers.org/NeXTfiles/Software/NEXTSTEP/Apps/Graphics/Misc/Gamma.preferences.1.0.beta.I.tar.gzbut with no success.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Andreas

as long as i'm remember correctly the gamma issue was also an issue of the used video driver. NeXTstep means vmware driver? Under Openstep you can choose also the generic VESA driver.
Yes, i am using the vmware driver (atomic object vmwarefb). And it has several other issues.
