A recent acquisition:

From research it appears this is a revision of 1.0 -- sort of a 1.1.  Does anyone know any more specifics?

I wonder if any cube users with working optical drives (hah!) are interested in a project to preserve images of 1.x and 2.x NextStep releases, turning them into tarballs or isos...

Holy crap. It's beautiful.
Yes! Someone offer their working MO drive for imaging this.

I am looking for an image of the NEXTSTEP Release 2.1 install MO. since I own a bunch of black hardware and about a dozen of 3.x CDs I don't think that there should be any legal issues. does anybody have an image and is willing to share?

regards,
michael

I have a working MO drives. I think I already have 1.0a dd and raw disk images, as well as 0.9/0.8. A lot of the older MO disk got overwritten, so chances are it will contain user data.

Anyways, feel free to send it to me and I will dump it for you.

unfortunately I don't own any media containing NeXTSTEP 2.1
I only have (legitimate) CDs containing 3.x releases.

I'm pretty sure I have every release of NeXTStep, including 2.1.

It would be pretty cool if those images could be hosted somewhere. If I understand correctly we have an unofficial "license" to use NeXT software on our 68k machines? I believe Rob is hosting NS3.3 and OS4.2. Perhaps he could host older versions as well?

I will try and get both MO and HDD images for some of the early release up on the internets somewhere.

I'll repeat a standing offer: if anyone has MO media they want dumped, I'd be happy to dump it, gratis (or rather, for the cost of postage). I'd give tar, clio, dd, and raw dumps of the disks on DVD.

If you wan't to install a 2.x NeXTstep you should better look for the NeXTstep 2.2 CD set.

I think I may have a CDROM set... certainly for 2.1, if not 2.2.

okay, I got ahold of an ISO image made from the CD pictured above and it is available on

http://www.max1zzz.co.uk/servers.html

it's in the uploads folder... burn the CD, restore the boot-floppy using the dd-image you'll find on the CD to an ED disk.
