Title: Soundbox death

So, anyone else have a soundbox actually die on them?  Booting my Turbo Cube and right after the NeXT Laser Printer whirs up I hear all sorts of crackling from the soundbox and then figured I better see if it still works.  No sound from it now.  Is it the speaker that goes in these or the electronics?  I used the sound application and when I select record I see the bar escalate as I talk so I know the mic portion works but can't play back on it now.

So, is that the common death of a soundbox?

I've had a couple "die" like that over the years.  Luckily I have some spare slabs so I just grab one of the spare soundboxes.  When my "first" Mono Monitor died a couple of years ago, I was bummed. lol.  It had been running faithfully since I first got it.  One thing for sure though, when it died, it almost went up in flames!  The smell in my computer room lasted for atleast 2-3 days.    I didn't think it was ever going to go away.  The slab is still running to this day just like my faithful work horse, a Turbo Color Slab along w/ it's 21" Monitor.  :D  I've had a couple of batteries dies, several hard drives & 1 or two dimms go bad, but the build quality of these systems are amazing.  Take care.

I stole my Turbo slabs soundbox also so I guess one of the days I need to buy another one.  I had 3 but tore into one thinking to switch it to a non adb model but I sure scratched it up opening it up.

I need to find out the trick to open the soundbox without beating it all up.  Plus I broke off one of the nuts that holds the cable in as they were glued in so tight.
