Title: Possible trouble with my soundbox - seeking help

I pulled my Turbo Color NeXTstation out of storage a couple of days back and I've managed to get the machine to start a few times but it requires several attempts at pushing the green power key on the (ADB) keyboard.

Once the machine starts it seems to be ok - it boots from the NeXTstep install CD.

At the moment I cannot get the machine to start at all.

At first I assumed that the battery was at fault - I'd previously replaced the Panasonic BR-2/3A with a CR123A and it worked fine (the BR-2/3A is very hard to find) - so I got a brand new CR123A today and that didn't help.

Is this a common problem? How do I go about fixing it?

EDIT:

I've managed to start my slab with the 470ohm resistor on pin-6 trick - however pressing the power button at the NeXT> ROM prompt or whilst logged in to a booted (freshly installed) NS3.3 instance does nothing.

So I suspect either my keyboard or my soundbox is kaput. I'm assuming that since the soundbox is ADB I can plug a Mac ADB keyboard into it and it aught to work just fine, IIRC there are Macintosh keyboards that have a soft power key - can anyone confirm this and suggest which model - I'm happy to buy one off of eBay. Indeed if this is possible I may buy a Mac Keyboard and Mouse for day-to-day use so as to save my NeXT keyboard from wear.

If my soundbox is at fault does anyone have any documentation that show how to open and repair a soundbox?

Alternatively does anyone have an ADB soundbox (Model N4004A) that they'd be willing to part with (assuming that it is my soundbox that is at fault)?

I have an Apple Extended Keyboard II on my 840av which has soft power, never tried it on my Cube though which has ADB.  Be aware that a non ADB Y cable will not work on ADB, but an ADB Y cable will work on both (just in case you have both and have mixed them up)

"I've managed to get the machine to start a few times but it requires several attempts at pushing the green power key on the (ADB) keyboard."

Could you explain your above statemetns ?
I'm having the same problem with my turbo slab. The power key doesn't start the machine ?

Have you get a solution of this problem?
Thanks in advance.

As mentioned in my edit you need to use a resistor across pin-6 of the monitor/soundbox connector.... if you take a look at the description here:

http://www.netbsd.org/ports/next68k/faq.html#no-monitor

you should be able to figure it out.

I've simply been using a resistor to start a-la headless but plugging the cable in immediately so I can use the box in a non-headless config.
