Title: no floppies for sparc?

I just realized that my little sparc 5 now needs another monitor cable because I got the wrong 13WR cable.

Ok, when I finally get that cable what should I expect?

Will nextstep 3.3 boot off of the cd?

The hardware includes enough software to boot to a command line prompt... from there you can direct it to the CD.

The last time I did it was back in 2000, so maybe someone else can walk through the actual steps for you.

Since I installed Nextstep 3.3 on my "new" Sparcstation 5 several weeks ago... it's normally sufficient to boot the Sparc using "boot cdrom" at the Open Firmware prompt. Installing from the original single speed CD-ROM  drive took quite a long time, however.

I'm not sure about your 13W3 cable - perhaps you've got the wrong monitor? Suns generate a composite sync signal, whereas otherr workstations of that vintage (SGI, IBM RS/6000, HP 9000) usually use sync-on-green
