Any suggestions on books, websites, podcasts, online lectures, or other good resources on  getting into iPhone app development.  I did program in VB pretty extensively until about 5 years ago, but all my recent "programming" experience is limited to hacking together shell scripts.  I also find myself at times missing the mental challenge and satisfaction that came with building an application.  As an iPad & iPhone user it would also be great to be able to whip together an app to solve my own problems, when no suitable solution can be found in the app store.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Chef,

If you're up on the iTunes store, there is a free video course from iTunes U under Stanford University on iPhone application development. It's taught by Apple engineers and is a pretty good starting point for someone who has no Objective-C experience, but has a good understanding of programing fundamentals and some object oriented programing experience.

Just do a search for iPhone Application Development under iTunes and it should pop up. Also, the developer documentation that comes with Xcode is pretty good.

Brian,

Thanks for the heads up about the free courses up on iTunes, as I had forgotten all about the courses section.  I will have to check out the Stanford posted courses this weekend, as it sounds like just what I am looking for.

Thanks  :D
