My mono slab doesn't power on the scsi harddrive on boot. I get error code 65. What's the problem?

Mine after several years would just click (unlock the heads) and not spin up.
The bearings were frozen. Since I had nothing to lose, I just disconnected the drive and set it down on a smooth surface and "spun" it a few times to let inertia do it's work.
That solved the problem.

I hope you did an immediate backup and then moved to a new drive!
I had a problem with a MAXTOR drive (admittedly after running 24/7 for over 3 years) where I had to flip the power switch over and over and over until the drive spun up. Eventually, it would not spin up at all. This was a custom upgrade for my NeXT, in an external SCSI case, not an OEM drive.
Once the bearings start going, use any safe trick you can to get the drive up, but then immediately back up everything! It's time for a new drive.
The problem is gone. :D I don't know what caused that error. I put an other drive in and that worked. Back the old one and everything was fine. :shock:
