Does anybody have information about the Cube-controlled manufacturing facility?

I have a few photos, and I read a little bit about a video shown during some of the early campus demos.

I'd like to see some official details!

Yes, there is a movie called "the machine that build the machine". It is about 7 minutes long and shows the birth of a cube.

I contacted the owner of that video in early December of last year to see if I could purchase the VHS tape.  He seemed receptive at first, and then he stopped answering e-mails so I wasn't able to obtain it.  If anyone has a copy to sell please PM me.  I'd like to make a high quality copy available in the archives here.

Thanks!

I managed to get in touch with the person who posted that video and he will either:

-Make a duplicate of the NeXT tape and send the tape to me to post on the net.

-Digitize a high-quality copy and send it to me over the net.

Either way, The NeXT Archive will get that video.

Well guess what I have sitting on my desktop.  8)
That's right. After a few months of work I finally have a high quality copy of the video. Now where am I to put it?

Thanks pentium.  :D  8)

The file is called "The_Machine_to_Build_the_Machines.mp4" and is available in the NeXTfiles Archive under the videos section.  The download weighs in at 85Mb.

Erm, also, if Nitro has not edited it out there was a little bit of stuff at the very end of the video that did not relate to building the board but it still relates to NeXT.

uhu, good that you said, I didn't watch to the end as I allready seen the movie but the end is even more interesting. It would be great to get the whole intro of Next Computer!

What was happening at intro you can read in Macworld (January 1989) written by Jerry Borrell or for online brief look here http://www.vectronicsappleworld.com/2006/0611.html

Steve says he would love to show some slides of how the computer is made, but he's decided instead to show a movie. The film starts like an early George Romero flick - white type on a black background, high camp. Then it switches to the most polished corporate setting imaginable. The board fabrication is done by robots, with all surface-mount technology. The floor of the place is polished to a smooth gloss, and the lighting makes it look like a modern office.

At the end of the film, we get a glimpse of the computer. A black, 1-square-foot-cube, with a tiny logo in the center. Then, at last, he shows us the computer itself.

Try and down convert it. The fact that it is an MPEG4 video is the issue. I can't even seem to get it to work on my PSP.

I just noticed something.
In the video they have two SMT machines but in that photograph of the Fremont factory we see three SMT machines.
