As many of you know, Steve Jobs worked out of his house in the early days of NeXT, Inc. In Steve's case, "working out of your house" meant a 17,000 square foot mansion in Woodside, California that he purchased in the early 1980's. The house, referred to as the Jackling House, was built in 1923 for copper baron Daniel C. Jackling. Steve still owns the house today, and wants to tear it down to build a smaller home for his family to live in. He's been involved in a legal battle for quite some time and he had finally received permission from the city to proceed. Then a group of people sued both Steve Jobs and the City of Woodside to stop the demolition, and in January 2006 they won. Here's a picture of Steve and the crew in front of the house, which appeared in Newsweek magazine.
Here's a link to a Web site run by the group of people calling themselves "Friends of the Jackling House". Although the site only presents one side to the story, it contains a wealth of information on the house from a historical standpoint.
