I'm wondering if anyone has successfully used an *internal* JAZ drive with a NeXT box? I have a bunch of these and after playing around for a bit, I have yet to get the *internal* JAZ working... external is no problem at all.

I have a little experience with compatibility issues. My assumption is that you're having interface problems. In the cases that I've seen the external interfaces that the Jaz drive uses are either SCSI, Parallel or USB, where as the internal Jaz dive interface is IDE only.

Since the internal storage interface is SCSI, it would make sense that the IDE Jaz drive would be incompatible. I'm not sure about the NeXT Box, but with my NeXT slab there's only one internal SCSI interface which is occupied by the internal hard drive. I'm not sure what the internal floppy drive interface is, but I'm pretty sure it's unique to the floppy drive.

Upon further research, I did find one internal Ultra SCSI Jaz drive here:

Just my two cents.

These are internal SCSI Jaz drives, 50 pin. They *should* work, but I think they might be a bit peculiar... reading the documentation for them doesn't instill confidence.

Interesting and curious. If you are able to record anything specific about these drives that is unusual, I think this would be of general interest.

I pulled down the manuals etc for them and they seem *very* particular about termination etc. I'll see if I can find the worrying bits...
