I have a strange problem in VMWare Fusion. I run Nextstep 3.3 and when I'm using it at some point (I haven't pinpointed the exact issue) I will hear a "ding" and the whole system freezes. The mouse pointer also disappears or stops moving.
I can still exit VMWare and continue using OSX.
I feel it might be related to me hitting the "tab" button but I'm not sure.

You need to go into Configure.app and remove the sound card. This is a known issue with VMWare 3.1 and higher, see:
http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2520 I know it's a bummer, not to be able to run sound with VMWare. The other option is to downgrade to VMWare 3.0 or earlier, the sound driver will work. You might be able to find an older version on an archive somewhere.
