Did NeXT every release a cube with an internal cd drive? I just watched a video with Steve Jobs saying that the new 040 cubes would come with either an internal OD, CD or 2xHDs... I don't recall ever seeing an internal CD in a stock NeXT cube, any thoughts?
Hello: I don't think NeXT ever officially released an internal CDROM however the original NeXT Sony 1X drive with the cartridge in the external case when removed from the case will work and eject the cartridge through the optical disk drive hole via the operating system disk eject . I've also modified tray cdroms to work but it usually requires internal mill work as well for both as the internal side of the bezel has pointy splines that need to be filed down.
My best success has been with slotted scsi cdrom drives like you see in most cars where it requires no modificitaion and ejects through the former optical disk drive hole.
