Can anyone remind me what the socket is on an 030 motherboard, right next to to the NextBus connector?

That would be for the NextBus Interface Chip.  Early system boards didn't always get one.

Thanks! So does this affect the ability of this 030 board to use other add-in boards? (Not like there were very many...)

Yep, it's needed if you want it to work with other boards.
