I'll never understand ebay. I just sold a pristine Turbo Dimension for around $1600 and then this cube is at $1275...

Edit: removed immature rant.
I was able to pick one up for $350.00.

But yeah four MO disks just went for almost $200.00 but I doubt that the buyer can actually read what they had just bought though, crazy.

the other day, I came across by accident to this article titled The NeXT Hot Collectible?

A NeXTdimension Cube for $650! I'm looking into getting one -- anybody else selling one for around the same price?
Wow. I never even saw the one that went for $350.
It all depends on demand and timing. There were times when you couldn't give em away, let alone have someone pay you for them. I picked up my current cube for $130 or so, with shipping.
There was also this (
http://www.ebay.com/itm/220877766156) recent 68040 cube with a Dimension card, sound box, and color monitor that went for $850 on eBay. Sure went fast, however.
Well, looks like I'm never going to get that Dimension board I longed for. Oh well.
$200 for four MO cartridges? It's a good thing I bought those 21 cartridges last year for not much pocket.
I wonder if the now even more active sale of NeXT stuff means that people will try a little harder to get their MO drives working?
I actually wondered about those MO disks. I have working drives and can dump the media no problem, but I don't know of anyone else, so how can they be at all valuable to anyone without a drive.
Plus, those releases are relatively common... I already have images of them.
FWIW, I have a MO drive that still works. To be perfectly honest, I have only used it a handful of times just to make sure it reads and writes...but it's hanging in there.
What amazes me is how many of my original cube/slab hard drives are still operational. I have two book boxes of old IDE/SATA hard drives from just the past decade, and every one of those drives was only used on my personal/home machines.
What kind of luck do folks have with their external NeXT CDROM drives? I don't hear much about them, so I'm curious if there aren't many out there or just not enough interest to keep them working.
The external CDROM drives aren't particularly reliable, but they're basically just Sony CDU541 drives in a different case and with a different bezel, so they're easy to repair.
Does anyone else have working MO drives? I have 6 or so that are reliable (one is busily dumping images as we virtually speak), but I spent many hours, and a lot of money getting to that point.
Hey that ebay Cube was mine. It finally sold for 1,525. It is the second I sold. The first went for $1,750. Hey, I like this hardware, but now I have a brand new iMac and I am looking at getting a flat screen tv
All that said, I have a ton of stuff still, including two more cubes, 4 printers, a slab, and about 30 shrink wrapped OS install packages for 3.3 and 3.1. I'll check with this forum to see if there is interest in this stuff, but the bigger things .... ebay .....
I still play with NextStep but in a VM under Parallels. It screams on my MacPro.
Congratulations, but I still can't understand why a mono cube is worth about the same as a Turbo Dimension cube on ebay...
I think the reason Cubes suddenly are getting top dollar on eBay are the news coverage of the 20th anniversary of the www, and Steve Jobs passing. Both raised the public awareness of the NeXT Cube beyond a few avid collectors.
I think that's true... might be that when they see ' NeXT Cube' they see the iconic cube + frog monitor and only those will sell for top dollar.
I will be putting up another Turbo Dimension soon, so we'll see what happens...
