Sorry for the provocative subject.

However, I'd like to get in touch with someone from the community, who's willing to part with a little excess equipment for a song.

I *am* willing to pay a symbolic amount for it, pay for shipping and I'm also willing to travel by car. But I *don't* have thousands of dollars/pounds/euros to spend on an old computer.

Actually, I'd just like a NextCube or Turbo Color slab, and I'd rather not partake in a bidding frenzy for it.

I'm very aware of the fact I'm being very provocative. Some might even be offended. And almost certainly, no-one will respond positively and offer me a computer.

On the other hand: if someone did, wouldn't that be something?! :D

Cheers,

Anders, Denmark

Well if I am not being to bold I think that if you are not able to find someone you might think of going virtual instead.
Granted having a original is great but it is more that a bit of time and expertise to keep these systems operational.
And if you do not have the money now, a free one will not be of much use when your hard drive fails and you do not have the CD's and the CD player to re-install.
Mono slab needs Mono monitor or cable hack/converter.
Color ones are more manageable but still require the video converter cable to use.
All require a keyboard/soundbox to fully run.

If you go virtual here is a link in order to start.

Good luck.

Hello : Sometimes I'm contacted by customers in Europe that have NeXT hardware they just want to give away to a good home and it is to expensive to have it shipped here, so I've put them in touch with people in need on your side of the pond. I know there was a group from Switzerland on here last summer that had NeXT systems for give away, you may ping them to see if they have any left . Also If I have someone from fairly close by to you in Europe contact me about NeXT hardware they want to see go to a good cause at a good price or free, I'll pass along your information to them. Always believe in good karma, I try and offer the systems we have for sale at market or below market value as it helps keep the lights on so there is a balance to it all.  I wish you Good luck in finding one as they are neat computers! Also any one looking to part with equipment here on this side of the pond feel free to drop us an email . I appreciate all of our customers old and new support in keeping the NeXT dream alive all these years. Best Regards Rob Blessin

If you choose to go virtual, Openstep 4.2 runs great in the latest Virtualbox.

Hi all, and many thanks for all the positive feedback.

As it turns out, at *very* kind soul has offered me a mono cube, if I can arrange for a friend to pick it up in R.I. Now how about that!

leftofright: You are quite right; without the knowhow and spare cash/spare parts, it would be of little use. However, I have the expertise since 20 years, and I also have plenty of older, compatible hardware, i.e. from older Macs. I think of old computers much like old cars; some collect "garagequeens" and others like to work with the cars, get them road-worthy, and enjoy the odd sprint in the country side. I'm in the latter category.

I'm a software developer by trade (although I never made it big in the boom-days), and I'd like to contribute with whatever I can in my particular field, for everyone to enjoy. And what would be more enjoyable, than writing software on an original Cube?!

Again, many thanks to you all!

Very nice RimmerDK!
The people here are great so don't worry about bringing you new toy back to life.
As for Rob, could you spare a Nitro board for a poor soul?
Can you imagine the Karma that would come from that?!!
Ha!
Well with Rob's connections you should get enough parts to piece together a nice system.
Good luck!
