I've been reading the posts about SCSI to IDE and CF cards. My only problem with that is the write cycles, you would eat up the write cycles fairly quickly with NeXT/Openstep. So my question is, how do you think a NeXTStation would handle a SCSI to IDE with a IDE HDD, say 40GB or whatever, will it partition correctly? I have had next to no luck with all of my SCSI HDD's for whatever reason.. just want to get my machine back up!
about the write cycles: PCengines sells SLC based CF cards, so the wear shouldn't be a problem. i'm running openstep on such a card ->

edit: nice SCSI to CF adapter (haven't got one yet) ->

A while ago I was experimenting with various SCSI options and I purchased an A-Card ARS-2000SUP from
http://www.mars-tech.com/ars-2000su.htm as they had the best price in North America (that I could find). You can find out more about the product at
http://www.acard.com/english. It is not cheap, but it is of high quality and IMHO worth the price.
I tested it in my Turbo Color slab with an 80GB Hitachi SATA drive and it worked perfectly. I also tested it with 40GB OCZ Vertex2 and everything worked well, with the exception of fsck running every time on a restart. I concluded that the SSD was not able to flush it's cache (likely just the FS clean flag) before power was removed from it. I am convinced that using a "pro" SSD with power backup like the Vertex2 Pro would work 100% correctly.
I do not trust unknown brands with something like SCSI since they are likely to have buggy firmware with compatibility issues. Of course this is just my opinion and it is highly speculative. The best way to check is to try it in your system.
