I'm currently talking to sombody about all things NeXT and he tells me he has 3 PA-RISC machines and they are running OPENSTEP 4.2
AFAIK, it didn't exist for HP-PA only NS 3.x was ever released. That fact that HP-PA is not mentioned in any of the OPENSTEP patches on Apple site seems to support this, however given who the person is I have no reason to doubt him.
I always thought that NS 3.3 (which I have) came on 2 CD's one containing the CISC (i486 & Mot 68k) releases and another one containing the RISC (SPARC & PA) releases.
I also thought the OPENSTEP (which I have) came with i486, Mot 68k & Sparc all came on one CD thus one disc contained the CISC & single RISC release. The person I'm talking to says that the last lot of discs supplied by Apple came with 2 CD's one contining CISC and the other containing RISC releases Sun SPARC & HP PA-RISC (much like the same format as the NS 3 releases)
Can anybody tell me do they have the last lot of CD's, I seem to think they may have been the Y2K things that Apple gave away if you had a NeXT computer, or maybe the Prelude to Rhapsody release. Does anybody have a PA and one of these discs, can anybody else support this or give anymore info.
I've been under the same impression as you... more over, Apple would have been more likely to have an OPENSTEP patch for the PA-RISC processor if they were the ones who sold the software.
I don't believe that either my OPENSTEP 4.1 or 4.2 media supports PA-RISC... but then again, I haven't actually tried. For all I know that media may upgrade a NEXTSTEP 3.3 PA-RISC installation to OPENSTEP 4.x.
