I have read prior threads estimating that maybe 50k cubes were made? ...however I wonder how many remain active around the world?
By active, I mean a cube that was successfully booted within the last year.
1k cubes? 5k cubes? I recognize its just a hypothetical question with no sure answer, but it would be interesting if there was a way to somewhat approximate.
i was under the impression that there were about 50'000+ NeXT computers manufactured, including both slabs *and* cubes. there may be a lot less cubes around than stations. i don't know for sure....
I wonder what the ratio of cube to slab might have been, if the total is assumed to be about 50k?
Just for grins, if I assume 50/50 split then 25k cubes were made (have seen serial numbers as high as 17k), and if 5% remain active (a wild assumption), then 1250 cubes remain operational.
