Hi,
I have a 040-25 Cube that I recently dug out of storage to find that it still boots perfectly. I'd really like to put that beauty to work again. Unfortunately, the monitor has gotten pretty dim, something needs to be done about that. I'm currently thinking of two possibilities:
One, replace the tube with a fresh one; does anyone know where to get such tubes?
Two, gut the monitor and put an LCD panel in. Preferably a very high-res one so the inevitable aliasing effects aren't that visible. I've looked around for projects like this but couldn't find any; does anyone know if this has been done before? Is it a sacrilege? 8)
Regards,
Björn
You can tweak the brightness on the monitor, but also, if you let it run for some time, it should brighten up a bit.
I have actually been planning to try an LCD conversion....
I think there were at least two projects around the forums that describe how to wire up a VGA display.
sdinet was even selling pre-built cables a while back:

I have had cables professionally made, and it's easy enough. There is actually a header on the soundcard you can use to drive the display.
