First off, AWESOME forum. I've lurked for years but finally have some black hardware worth complaining about (and asking for help about).

I recently purchased a Mono NeXTStation with no OS, and have been trying to get NS3.3 installed on it.

I have install media, a (hopefully) compatible external SCSI CD-ROM set to ID6, and boot disks.

When I get into the ROM monitor and issue the bfd command, the drive churns and spits out the following:

Has anyone seen this before?

I'm thinking that its the drive because I tried multiple boot floppies made with fresh disks each time on a Windows machine, a Debian box, and a USB floppy on an Intel iMac.

Does anyone know a good source of known-good NeXT floppy drives?

Any floppy drive cleaning/lubrication advice?

Also, while inspecting the capacitors and battery of the board and cleaning everything up post-purchase, I noticed that two of the leads on the DSP were bent and are almost-but-not-quite-even-though-I-can't-really-tell (I hope) touching as seen here:

Is this going to be a problem? It looks like a manufacturing problem or something because there isn't a single scratch or dent anywhere else on the top or bottom of the board, and it seems weird that an errant screwdriver would bend these two leads and leave no other marks on the board at all.

As a side note, I also have a Sparcstation 5 and an HP 712/60 I want to put NS/OS on, if I can ever find install media.

Anyways, thanks everyone for any help.

I have some NOS floppy drives available, and replacement motherboards if needed.

For the legs on the DSP chip. I've used razor blades to straighten the pins before. Just be very careful and gentle so as not to damage the board or the pins. Obviously disconnect any power beforehand.
