Phew!!!  :P  took the DC-DC converter from a dead monoturbo slab mobo, replaced the nearby electrolytic capacitor with a fresh one, crossed fingers and powered on the cube: it's alive and pinging! it seems that nothing else was affected when the DC-DC burnt up. happy-happy-joy

It seems to be a DPS1202G DC-DC converter which is still available and is not expensive. E.g., http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/dps1202g.html
