Hey all.
I have a Cube I've brought into the office and am considering upgrading...if it's even possible. I don't believe I can run 3.3 on it, correct?
here is the host info:
archimedes> hostinfo
Mach kernel version:
NeXT Mach 2.0: Wed Nov 21 12:46:53 PST 1990; /ph1_sources/projects/mk-108.1/RELEASE
Kernel configured for a single processor only.
1 processor is physically available.
Processor type: MC680x0 (68040)
Processor active: 0
Primary memory available: 12.00 megabytes.
Default processor set: 39 tasks, 64 threads, 1 processors
Load average: 0.00, Mach factor: 0.99
I'd like to find a 2G SCSI drive and do a fresh install, since certain things aren't working on it (like any of the apps in /NextAdmin). Since the disk I have is an optical, and the optical drive is dead, I'll need to find a copy on CD. What's the best source to find the version of NS I need?
Thanks.
You can run 3.3, and you can upgrade the ram to 64mb.
Thanks, jr.
Now, how about the optical drive? :)
Does anyone know anyone who repairs them still? Not a high priority, but it'd be nice to restore the thing to it's former, noisy glory.

the optical drive path is harder as most seem dead. Id consider finding a cheap next slab with 3.3 then duplicating an image onto your HD (procedure describe in this forum or PM), or getting a pre loaded OS HD from black hole inc or other souce.
I am running 3.2 and can create a copy given an HD....
